Ethics and CopyrightEthics is a system of moral principals. When using a computer, you are responsible for the actions you take with it. No one should use a computer to harm nor blackmail anyone with personal information. It is against the law to use someone else's thoughts, idea's, or inventions without their permission. There are many licenses under the creative commons law that allows people to use someone else's work with certain requirements.

Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike license This license lets others remix, tweak, and build upon their work non-commercially, as long as they credit the original creator. and license your new creations under the identical terms. Attribution-ShareAlike license This license lets you remix, tweak, and build upon your work even for commercial purposes, as long as they credit the original creator. Copyright An exclusive right granted by the federal government allowing the owner to reproduce and sell an artistic or published work. Creative Commons The organization promotes legal sharing of created work, and the creators specify reuse terms and conditions. Ethics A system of moral principles. Fair use Allows limited copying of copyrighted works for educational and research purposes. Hackers People very knowledgeable about computers who use their knowledge to invade other people's computers. Intellectual Property A product of the intellect, such as an expressed idea or concept, that has commercial value. Licensed for reuse Material that you may legally use. Open Source Online applications and resources which are available to the general public with very few restrictions. Piracy The act of plagiarizing. Plagiarism A piece of writing that has been copied from someone else and is presented as being your own work. Public Domain The state of belonging or being available to the public as a whole, and therefore not subject to copyright. Values Beliefs of a person or social group in which they have an emotional investment (either for or against something). |
